Magic: The Gathering
In the last 30 days, we celebrated both our North American (2.7.09) and European (3.7.09) company meetings. Each saw Knowledge Warriors collect to learn about new product initiatives, discuss strategic direction, and--to simply--remake each other's acquaintance. Feedback from attendees from both meetings echoed similar sentiments--that getting together, in person, was a heartening experience. Connecting with fellows face-to-face makes a difference in morale--a strong signal from our monkey brains: safety in numbers, comfort in shared experiences.
So, as we look forward to a challenging year, help yourself and others--stay socially engaged. Take advantage of local opportunities to meet with fellow Knowledge Warriors; to expand connections beyond project lines. Our electronic linkages convey knowledge with fidelity, but transmit community imperfectly; over-time the coldness of LCD-mediated relationships leaches the commraderie that makes facing adversity more palatable.
Seeing you all in and out of action, gives me great pride. We are a special company with special people. In the coming months, I look forward to continuing the dialog begun this quarter and keeping our shared challenges in perspective. In 2010, we will gather again. In 2009, we will fight and win. Keep your network strong.
